Plaza Los Castaños

Modern lighting solution creates a vibrant open space at night for residents to take advantage of at all times

Santiago is a city of many impressive plazas. These squares provide residents and tourists with plenty of open spaces to admire the views or simply spend time outdoors at night while appreciating the good weather.

Plaza Los Castanos in the Vitacura area is home to the Our Lady of Mercedes Church and a space where the local residents like to gather here to catch up with friends and family.

In 2016, the local authorities decided to modernise the lighting on this square to creating a safe and inviting nocturnal area while reducing energy costs.
They wanted an LED lighting solution that would improve the lighting levels for better visibility, increase the feeling of security and enhance the neighbourhood.

They entrusted this project to the Cosal construction company who chose a variety of Schréder luminaires to transform this square.

The main lighting is provided by the STYLAGE LED lantern.
The contemporary design brings a touch of elegance to the area while diffusing a gentle white light to create a warm and welcoming nocturnal ambiance throughout the square and along the paths.

The SCULPline was recessed in the ground in a continuous line to create a dramatic entrance for the church.

The TERRA Midi LED uplights the trees to enrich the natural foliage while the PONTO creates a striking feature of the statue of the Virgin Mary.
All of these fixtures have a high IP protection to resist the harsh climatic conditions of this coastal city.

The residents are delighted with the new lighting, which has really created a vibrant and welcoming space where they can relax at all times.
