Carlton Junction, London

A next-generation lighting innovation, engineered by industry experts to deliver safer maintenance and lasting impact across the UK rail network.

As part of the ongoing improvement works along the Thameslink route, Network Rail specified Urbis Schréder’s robust KORUZ solution to illuminate Carlton Junction — a critical location situated between London St Pancras and Kentish Town. Developed in collaboration with leading rail professionals, KORUZ is setting a new standard for trackside lighting.

Replacing its predecessor, CORUS (now discontinued), which has been successfully deployed on major rail projects including Crossrail and the Channel Tunnel, KORUZ delivers enhanced performance, improved energy efficiency, and reduced material use — all while maintaining the robust reliability demanded by rail environments.

Designed by the industry, for the industry

KORUZ is more than just a product — it’s the result of focused collaboration. Through engagement with clients, consultants, installers, and end users, the luminaire was shaped by the needs of those who rely on it most.

From industry days and hands-on demonstrations to testing in real rail conditions, every detail was informed by direct feedback. The result: a future-proof lighting solution optimised for efficiency, safety, and ease of maintenance.

Despite its smaller physical size, the 'spread' of KORUZ light seems to be no narrower than the current lights in use, and compliant results were achieved using the existing spacing.

It was chosen over competitor products, as an adjustable bracket allows the angle to be changed relative to the track - unlike others which require different luminaires for different angles. This significantly simplifies logistics for depots.

This adaptability reduces the need to stock multiple variants, streamlining maintenance and installation across the rail network.

Built for rail. Engineered for simplicity.

  • Modular system: Enables luminaires to be combined for greater output where needed.
  • Slide-out driver access: Maintenance is simplified via an end-cap access point.
  • Versatile mounting: KORUZ can also be installed in tunnels and has been rigorously tested in harsh rail environments.

From initial install to long-term upkeep, every feature of KORUZ has been refined to serve rail professionals on the ground.

From pilot to network-wide rollout

As a testament to its success, KORUZ is now being considered for a growing number of large-scale rail projects across the UK — helping to protect thousands of railway workers and deliver compliant, sustainable, and cost-effective lighting.
