La Saline les Bains skate park

Aesthetic and energy-efficient lighting to enhance the skate park and help riders reach the podium

The skate park at La Saline les Bains on Réunion Island (in the commune of Saint-Paul) is much more than just a sports facility. It embodies the energy and creativity of the island's skateboarders. This popular meeting place gives local young people a real platform for self-expression and attracts not only skateboarders, but also BMX and freestyle scooter enthusiasts.

In response to public demand for a new riding area, the skate park has been extended at a cost of €940,000. Schréder was entrusted with delivering an efficient and attractive lighting system to enhance this public space.

This project was the result of close collaboration between our engineers, designers, and local teams. Together, we delivered a bespoke solution that is perfectly adapted to the site's technical and environmental constraints. Thanks to strict management and seamless coordination at every stage of the project - from design to installation - the skate park was completed on time and to the highest standards. Several key players ensured an optimum result:

  • Tamarun and the commune of Saint-Paul managed the project;
  • Isotec (represented by Mr Massaad) and Janne Saarion (skateboard section) supervised the design and implementation;
  • Stand 64, our partner in La Réunion, played a pivotal role in the technical specifications and logistical support;
  • Testoni Réunion was responsible for the installation.

Lighting to match sporting ambitions

The VALINTA CURVE MAXI luminaire with neutral white LEDs (4000K) was chosen for its uniform lighting and average light output of 150 lux. This level of illumination means that the skate park has been approved to host regional competitions.

Our lighting design team drew up a photometric study to meet the NF EN 12193 standard for sports applications. A total of 48 luminaires on 15 masts ensure visibility and safety for the athletes.

Each area of the park therefore benefits from optimal light intensity, enabling users to fully enjoy their sessions until 11 pm.

Lighting for skate park success

The VALINTA CURVE, designed by Michel Tortel, stands out for its clean, refined lines, which blend harmoniously into any landscape. It is available in a range of sizes and with different types of LEDs (white or coloured) and light distributions to suit a variety of projects. It is also sustainable, as it is made from recyclable materials.

It was a great choice for this skate park as its design mirrors the curves and contours of the park, while providing optimum visual comfort for riders. Combining performance and aesthetics, it gives this popular spot a dynamic vibe for sports board enthusiasts.

The skate park has already become a victim of its own success, particularly in the late afternoon, at weekends and during school holidays. The facilities are suitable for skateboarders and rollerbladers of all experience levels who flock there in large numbers to hone their skills and show off their moves.

Who knows - maybe we'll see a rider from Saint-Paul at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028!
