Off-grid solar lighting provides a flexible solution for a temporary car park in Munich
Arthrex is a global medical device company that specialises in orthopaedic surgery. Its EMEA headquarters and surgical training centre are located in Munich. As Arthrex expands its Munich campus with a new office building and a state-of-the-art training facility for doctors, it created a temporary car park to accommodate vehicles throughout the construction period.
As the car park will only be used for a limited period, installing permanent cabling and underground infrastructure was not permitted. This meant that the project called for a flexible lighting solution that could provide reliable illumination without requiring a connection to the electrical grid.
Off-grid solar lighting as a temporary solution
The VERTICALIS standalone solar lighting solution was well suited to the site's requirements. Its integrated photovoltaic panels and battery provide the energy required for reliable lighting, enabling people to safely navigate the car park without the need for a grid connection or underground cabling.
This off-grid approach minimises installation work and avoids the need to invest in infrastructure that would eventually have to be removed when the temporary car park is dismantled.
The solution also provides an unobtrusive installation, well suited to the temporary nature of the site.
A solution shaped by collaboration
We worked closely with HL Lichttechnik, a lighting engineering and consulting firm, to deliver a solution tailored to the site's specific requirements, in coordination with Liebald Aufermann and Großberger Beyel, the Munich-based landscape architects.
A total of 12 double and 3 single VERTICALIS solar luminaires, each equipped with neutral white LEDs (3,000 K), were installed throughout the car park while respecting the surrounding landscape and constraints of the construction site.
The result is a practical lighting solution that provides reliable illumination throughout the temporary installation period without compromising the site's future flexibility.

For Arthrex, this solution provides reliable lighting throughout the construction period without the need for permanent electrical infrastructure. When the temporary car park is no longer required, the installation can be dismantled without leaving redundant cabling or underground infrastructure behind.
