LED Lighting Regeneration

Penarth is a small coastal town in the Vale of Glamorgan, situated about five miles south-west of Cardiff and lying between Cardiff and Barry and the popular resort of Barry Island. Penarth has a population of more than 22,000 people, and has strong transport links with the Welsh capital and as a result forms an upmarket commuter residential centre, as well as a suburban tourist destination.

During the Victorian era the town underwent significant transformation, merging with the local parishes of Cogan and Llandough and opening its own railway station and much of the town’s current architecture reflects this Victorian heritage.

As part of a new residential regeneration project Vale of Glamorgan Council commissioned a Zig-Zag footpath and parkland area, cutting through and clearing a heavily wooded embankment to link the new housing development with the existing infrastructure on Terranova Way.
Careful attention needed to be given to the existing wildlife as it formed part of a “Bat corridor” and as a result Urbis Pharos

LED Bollards were chosen to both control the light to cover the footpath, and keep the visual clutter on the downhill embankment to a minimum.
The project began in October 2016 and lasted five months, finishing in early February 2017 when the installation of the 31 bollards was completed.
